2025 Student Registration for NNALSA - AILC Professional Development Workshops
The American Indian Law Center, Inc. is holding two workshops for American Indian and Alaskan Native law students attending the National NALSA Moot Court Competition on February 14-15, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. These workshops are designed to promote proper preparation for professional job applications and interviews. Networking with attorneys and potential employers is expected.

How to Attend: Complete this registration form, including all required documents by February 1, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST.

The American Indian Law Center is working with the National Native American Law Student Association to provide professional development workshops as a part of their 55th Anniversary Celebration. The AILC is able to reimburse reasonable and necessary travel expenses up to $500 for 50 attendees. Applications will be considered on a first-come-first-served basis, with a preference to those participating in the Moot Court Competition. We have reserved funding from our Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) grant to support up to 50 law students who are members of a federally recognized tribe, ¼ blood quantum, or a first descendant of a tribal member. If you do not qualify for BIE funding, submit a registration and include documentation of your state or other tribal affiliation.

Who is Eligible for Travel Reimbursements:

  1. American Indian and Alaska Native full-time J.D. students attending ABA accredited law schools.
  2. Must complete this registration form and submit required documents by February 1, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
  3. **Reimbursement is contingent upon attending all AILC and NNALSA workshops and Keynote Panel during the event on Saturday, February 15th**
    • The later rounds of the Moot Court Competition will overlap with workshops and Keynote Panel. Applicants for reimbursement who advance to the Sweet 16 and further will be required to write an essay reflecting on their experience to receive funding. Details will be communicated with the members of the advancing teams shortly after the conclusion of the competition.
  4. Must complete a reimbursement request with copies of appropriate receipts. Please submit Travel Reimbursement Form and all receipts within 21 days after travel is complete.

IMPORTANT:

  • Funding will be paid out as a reimbursement (up to $500) to YOU for your travel expenses to attend this event. The student must be the individual who purchases the airfare and lodging, the AILC cannot reimburse expenses not paid for by the students. AILC is not able to provide funding in advance.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to seek other funding sources and to utilize AILC funding to supplement any unmet needs.
  • Qualified students receiving reimbursement from the American Indian Law Center must disclose all other sources and amounts of funding for this event.  Applicants must certify that their submitted expenses are not and will not be covered by another source of payment or reimbursement.

Students are encouraged to attend a pre-trip meeting hosted by AILC over Zoom for further information concerning the reimbursement.

It is the responsibility of the student to complete all registrations and to provide all documentation necessary for reimbursement. AILC staff will not provide reminders. Please contact Josh Brynildsen at jbrynildsen@ailc-inc.org if you have any questions.

**The American Indian Law Center is only able to reimburse expenses to attend the NNALSA  55th Anniversary Celebration and Moot Court Competition that the student's law school of any other organization has not already paid.**

TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT GUIDELINES

2025 NNALSA Moot Court Competition Professional Development Workshops

The American Indian Law Center can reimburse reasonable and necessary travel expenses up to $500 for 50 registered attendees of the 2025 NNALSA Moot Court competition. Applicants must complete the registration form in its entirety by February 1 to be eligible for reimbursement. **Reimbursement is contingent upon attending all AILC and NNALSA workshops and Keynote Panel during the event on Saturday, February 15th**. Funding comes from a Bureau of Indian Education grant to support current full-time J.D. students and members of a federally recognized tribe, ¼ blood quantum, or first descendant of a tribal member.

IMPORTANT:

  • Due to strict grant requirements, funding will be paid out as a reimbursement to you for your travel expenses to attend this event. AILC is not able to provide funding in advance.
  • This reimbursement is not intended to cover all expenses, but to support your participation
  • Qualified law students must submit appropriate receipts, proof of mileage, and completed reimbursement form NO MORE THAN 21 DAYS AFTER the conclusion of the event.
  • Receipts and proof of mileage cannot be accepted prior to the conclusion of the event.
  • Students must provide receipts for ALL items requested for reimbursement.

Economy Airfare AILC can reimburse the cost of ECONOMY airfare booked three weeks in advance to and from your home airport to Las Vegas for the dates of the conference. Your flights cannot include upgrades.
Baggage Fees AILC can reimburse baggage fees for one bag. Does not include upgrades or additional fees.
Mileage (travel by car or train)

AILC can reimburse mileage in your personal vehicle at the federal rate (.67) to and from your home and the conference location. The miles driven should be the most direct route and must be equal to or less than an economy airfare ticket.

  • EXAMPLE: If the cost of an economy round-trip flight from South Dakota to Las Vegas is $499 and the cost of mileage is $1250 roundtrip, AILC will NOT reimburse the cost of the unreasonable mileage.

A MapQuest or Google Maps printout of your route is required to process reimbursement for mileage.

Airport Parking AILC can reimburse the cost of ECONOMY parking at your home airport for the duration of your travel. Upgrades such as covered parking or terminal specific parking will not be accepted.
Lodging AILC can reimburse for double-occupancy lodging at the host hotel.
Ground Transportation

For transportation to and from home and local airport:

  • AILC can reimburse the cost of a STANDARD rate (No Upgrades/ Priority unless equal or lesser value will be accepted) taxi, Uber, or Lyft service to and from your home and local airport. This expense can include a tip up to 15% of the total cost.
  • OR AILC can reimburse mileage to and from your home and local airport. See airport parking section below. This includes using your personal vehicle for drop-off and pick up.
